Apple Acres Farm

Local, Seasonal, Fresh Products

Our products are made from scratch right in our farm kitchen (or in our sugar shack) under cottage food regulations. Our focus on small batches using in-season produce is by design to ensure fresh, nutritious, and delicious farm products!

In keeping with our sustainability and local food roots, our offerings are seasonally available right from the farm or from Rhythm Bike & Board in downtown Houghton (upon request). Our "farm stand" is open to all every Friday from 4-6 pm starting end of May through the end of September. We offer short (15 minute) skill shares on various regenerative farming practices during our farm stand hours!

We prefer not to ship our products and encourage folks to seek out local producers in their area (the one exception is our herbal tinctures). Supporting local farmers supports local economies and for products like honey, they are best consumed from your local area to maximize their health properties.

SEASONAL FARM PRODUCTS

Local Maple Syrup

Rainbow of maple syrup

Tapped on the farm and boiled in our sugar shack

Each spring we tap several dozen maple trees right here on the farm and boil the sap in our very own sugar shack.

Unlike refined sugar, maple syrup is a source of calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, sodium, potassium, and zinc. Vitamins such as thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, and B6 are also found in this natural source of sweetness!

Wildflower Honey

Raw and unfiltered honey

Our wildflower honey is derived from the nectar of a variety of species of flowers that grow around the farm.

Raw and unfiltered honey provides natural sweetness as well as health properties, including antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals.

We only extract surplus honey in late August to ensure our bees have enough of this nutritious food stored to get them through the long winter.

As a small-scale producer, we operate under the state of Michigan's Cottage Food Law (PA 113 of 2010), which exempts our "cottage food" products from the licensing and inspection provisions of the Michigan Food Law. This allows our products to be made in a facility that is not inspected by the Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development.
