Apple Acres Farm
Local, Seasonal, Fresh Products
Our products are made from scratch right in our farm kitchen (or in our sugar shack) under cottage food regulations. Our focus on small batches using in-season produce is by design to ensure fresh, nutritious, and delicious farm products!
In keeping with our sustainability and local food roots, our offerings are seasonally available right from the farm or from Rhythm Bike & Board in downtown Houghton (upon request). Our "farm stand" is open to all every Friday from 4-6 pm starting end of May through the end of September. We offer short (15 minute) skill shares on various regenerative farming practices during our farm stand hours!
We prefer not to ship our products and encourage folks to seek out local producers in their area (the one exception is our herbal tinctures). Supporting local farmers supports local economies and for products like honey, they are best consumed from your local area to maximize their health properties.
SEASONAL FARM PRODUCTS
Local Maple Syrup
Tapped on the farm and boiled in our sugar shack
Each spring we tap several dozen maple trees right here on the farm and boil the sap in our very own sugar shack.
Unlike refined sugar, maple syrup is a source of calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, sodium, potassium, and zinc. Vitamins such as thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, and B6 are also found in this natural source of sweetness!
8 oz. bottle: $9
12 oz. bottle: $13
Raw and unfiltered honey
Our wildflower honey is derived from the nectar of a variety of species of flowers that grow around the farm.
Raw and unfiltered honey provides natural sweetness as well as health properties, including antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals.
We only extract surplus honey in late August to ensure our bees have enough of this nutritious food stored to get them through the long winter.
12 oz. bottle: $14
Pasture-raised, farm fresh eggs
Heather’s happy hens have the run of the farm. They spend their days foraging on pasture, dust bathing under pine trees, and coming and going from their beautiful coop as they please.
Organic non-GMO feed supplements their vitamins and minerals. Thanks to their free-range diet they produce healthy and gorgeous deep orange-yolked eggs!
Made from scratch in small batches
We specialize in long-fermentation sourdough recipes using our four year-old homegrown organic rye starter.
Our homemade sourdough products are made with whole-grain, organic, local, fair trade, and/or farm-raised ingredients right in our kitchen.
Sourdough offerings include: English muffins, pizza crust, rye bread, whole wheat bread and rolls (6 pc).
Available by special order* for $10
*requires 24-36 hour pre-order
Our herbal tinctures are made from herbs grown and foraged on the farm. Tinctures can be a healthy addition to a daily wellness routine thanks to their ability to support our body's natural healing response.

chaga (Inonotus obliquus)
turkey tail (Trametes versicolor)
holy basil (tulsi)

wine caps (Stropharia rugoso-annulata)
hedgehogs (Hydnum spp.)

Garden Fresh Produce
Fresh, healthy, and seasonal
Nutrient-dense vegetables and fruits depend on soils rich in organic matter and minerals.
Using regenerative agricultural practices, we focus on feeding the soil that supports healthy and vigorous plants that in turn provide us with nutritious produce.
Availability varies by season.
Stop by our farm stand each Friday from 4-6 pm (June - September, no farm stand July 28, September 1 and 8)
Local and seasonal produce, fruit, and mushrooms
New in 2023, we're offering 16 week CSA produce shares (full and half shares). The produce will vary depending on what is in season.
In addition to vegetables and herbs, weekly shares may include seasonally available fruit (Juneberries, elderberries, apples, fresh apple cider, autumn olive berries) and wild mushrooms.
Shares will available for pickup from the farm in Houghton.
Sold out for 2023 season!
As a small-scale producer, we operate under the state of Michigan's Cottage Food Law (PA 113 of 2010), which exempts our "cottage food" products from the licensing and inspection provisions of the Michigan Food Law. This allows our products to be made in a facility that is not inspected by the Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development.
