The Black Velvet Gooseberry (Ribes sp.) is a late-ripening cultivar that produces large crops of sweet, reddish-black fruit. The berries will remain on the thorny branches for weeks and will continue to sweeten until picked. This plant is hardy and grows up to 5 feet tall.
Dormant cuttings (6-10") are available from three year old plants grown without chemicals. Each cutting has been potted with soil inoculated with mycorrhizal fungi to encourage root formation. For local pickup only.
Cuttings can also be planted directly outside after the danger of frost has passed but need to be well mulched and watered. Compost or worm castings can be added as an occasional treatment.
